What is a Container Truck Driver’s License?
Container trucks, also known as tractor trucks, semi-trucks, or tractor units, are motor vehicles that transport goods by towing a trailer or semi-trailer. These vehicles typically carry large, bulky, and heavy loads. Therefore, operating a container truck requires a specialized driver's license.
According to Clause 12, Article 16 of Circular No. 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, a container truck driver’s license corresponds to an FC-class license. The FC license permits the driver to operate vehicles defined under Class C (trucks with trailers), tractor trucks pulling semi-trailers, and vehicles classified under B1, B2, C, and FB2.

Requirements for Training and Testing for an FC-Class Container Truck License
To study and take the exam for an FC-class container truck license, you must meet the following conditions:
Age: At least 24 years old (according to Article 60 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law).
Health: Must meet the health standards specified by the Ministry of Transport.
Existing License: Must already hold a Class C, D, or E driver’s license.
Driving Experience: If upgrading from B2, C, D, or E licenses to FC, you must have at least 3 years of driving experience and a record of 50,000 kilometers of safe driving (according to Article 7 of Circular No. 12/2017/TT-BGTVT).

Other Vehicles Permitted with an FC-Class License
The FC-class license is not limited to container trucks. It also allows the driver to operate:
Trucks and tractors with a gross vehicle weight of 3,500 kg or more (Class C).
Trucks, tractors under 3,500 kg, and passenger cars with up to 9 seats (Classes B1, B2).
B2-class cars towing trailers (Class FB2).
Validity Period of a Container Truck License
According to Article 17 of Circular No. 12/2017/TT-BGTVT (amended by Clause 3, Article 2 of Circular No. 01/2021/TT-BGTVT), the FC-class container truck license is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance.
How Much Does It Cost to Obtain a Container Truck License?
The cost of training for an FC-class container truck license varies depending on the training center. You should contact training centers directly to receive specific information regarding tuition fees and training programs.

Holding an FC-class container truck driver’s license requires drivers to meet all conditions regarding age, health, existing licenses, and driving experience. Understanding these regulations will help you better prepare for your training and exam process.
